Department History
Department of Family Medicine ATBUTH was established in 2010 with one consultant and one unit, the General outpatients clinic (GOPC). The department over the years, has grown to have four units namely the General outpatients clinic (GOPC), the National Health insurance Authority (NHIA) clinic, the Amenity/Retainership unit and Geriatrics unit. Each of these units is coordinated by a consultant family physician.
In terms of manpower, the department now have ten consultant family physician and many residents doctors and medical officers. The department serves as the gateway for attending to patients coming to ATBUTH with undifferentiated diseases 24 hours a day. Since its establishments the department has trained many doctors to become consultant family physicians through the residency training programme of the Postgraduate medical training in Nigeria. In terms of research, the department has published many research papers.
