School of Health Information Management

Department History
The history of SHIM ATBUTH Bauchi can be traced from 2015 through Hospital Management. This was necessary because of the pressing needs of Health Records professionals not only within the Hospital, but Bauchi state at large. Moreover, there was a shortage of training institutions in the Northeastern sub-region, with University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital serving as the sole Tertiary Institution for the training of Health Information Management. SHIM was, therefore, established in the year 2017, following approval granted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Development. Furthermore, the school was accredited by HRORBN dated July, 2017 to commence a professional Diploma in HIM with effect from the 2017/2018 academic session. The school started operating with 75 students. Through the consistent support from the Hospital Management, the school was able to migrate from a PD to an ND program in 2021, following approval by NBTE which led to the inclusion of the Institution into JAMB portal and Brochure according to the unified Tertiary admission policy and in 2025 the school secured approval from the Board to mount HND in HIM.
