Department History
The Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Department has been in inception at the establishment of the Teaching Hospital. While it transited from the specialist hospital, The late Dr Marina Asani was the Head of department, before Dr Sunday Akhigbe took over the leadership. Upon his retirement, Dr Taiye Izegaegbe became the HOD, a position he currently holds and also serving as the Consultant, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The department runs daily clinics with a variety of procedures and treatment options ranging from minor to major Maxillofacial surgeries, Conservative and restorative procedures such as Root canal therapies, Permanent fillings including GIC and composite. Others include scaling and polishing, prosthodontic procedures to replace missing teeth. The department has a full compliment of a consultant, residents in training, dental doctors, dental nurse, dental technologists, dental therapist and dental surgery assistants. It also receives students on posting from schools of health technology from Bauchi and neighboring states such as Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara to mention a few.
